Invest in your future. Strengthen the future of nursing home care
Are you a nurse looking to advance your career while making a meaningful difference in the lives of others? The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is making that opportunity more rewarding than ever with Nurses for Nursing Homes, a $275 million workforce initiative designed to recruit and retain dedicated nursing professionals in long-term care facilities across the country.
For nurses and nursing students, this initiative offers eligible participants:
- Up to $40,000 in student loan repayment
- A $10,000 stipend for qualifying recent graduates without eligible student loan debt
- The opportunity to build a rewarding career while helping address critical nursing workforce shortages.
In exchange, participants commit to three years of service at an eligible nursing home, such as Kingsbrook.

Who can apply?
To qualify for the initiative, applicants must:
- Hold an active RN or LPN/LVN license when employment begins.
- Work at least 30 hours per week at a qualifying nursing home.
- Have eligible student loan debt to receive loan repayment. Applicants without student loan debt must have graduated within the past two years to qualify for the stipend.
- Have not worked in a nursing home for at least 60 days before opening an application account and beginning an application.
- Commit to three years of service at an eligible Medicare-certified, Medicaid-certified, or dually certified long-term care facility.
- Special enrollment exception: During the initiative's first 90 days (Oct. 26, 2026–Jan. 24, 2027), an exception applies to RNs and LPNs/LVNs who began working at an eligible nursing home between July 28 and Oct. 25, 2026.
We are appreciative of CMS for this initiative, and creating a meaningful opportunity to attract and retain nursing professionals for long-term care facilities.
