Two-Day ACLS Provider Course Class #40295

The American Heart Association's Two-Day Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Provider course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of hospital. Through the ACLS course, providers will enhance their skills in the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies. ACLS emphasizes the importance of basic life support CPR to patient survival; the integration of effective basic life support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions; and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation.

ACLS is based on simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active, hands-on participation through learning stations where students will practice essential skills individually, as part of a team, and as team leader. Realistic simulations reinforce the following key concepts: proficiency in basic life support care; recognizing and initiating early management of peri-arrest conditions; managing cardiac arrest; identifying and treating ischemic chest pain and acute coronary syndromes; recognizing other life-threatening clinical situations (such as stroke) and providing initial care; ACLS algorithms; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.

ACLS Pre-Course Requirements:

• Current ACLS provider manual
• Pre-test before class begins
• Current BLS-HCP card
• Printed pre-course assessment test scores brought to class (must bring pre-test to take class and have a passing score of 70% or greater).
• Current AHA BLS-HCP card and understanding of the BLS for Healthcare Providers manual. The resuscitation scenarios require participant's BLS skills and knowledge be current. Participants will be tested on adult 1-rescuer CPR and AED skills at the beginning of the course. Participants will not be taught CPR or correct AED use; it must be known before class begins.
• Review, understand, and complete ECG and Pharmacology pre-course assessment tests. Participants will not be taught how to read or interpret ECGs, nor will they be taught details about ACLS pharmacology.
• Review and understand the information in the ACLS Provider Manual. In particular, participants should pay attention to the 10 core cases in Part 4.
• Complete all items on the pre-course checklist that came with the ACLS Provider Manual.
• Participants should check out a book 72 hours prior to class. UK King's Daughters team members can check out a book at the CPR Training Center. Payroll deduction forms are available for team members to sign to ensure books are returned. Community students also can check out a book.
• Classes must be paid in full the day students pick up their books; the fee is non-refundable. Books are to be returned the day of the class.

BLS-HCP cards are not issued as a part of an ACLS class. Upon successful completion, participants receive the Two-Day ACLS Provider certification, and not Adult BLS.

KDMC Policy E (37): Come to the course on time. AHA courses adhere to very strict timelines. Instruction begins within 10 minutes of the class beginning, including key concepts and hands-on learning. Team members/students who arrive more than 10 minutes late for the course will not be allowed to attend.
